The Valerie Merrick Library serves as an academic/public tribal library providing a reference and research center for students, faculty, and residents of Spirit Lake Nation and the surrounding communities. The Library offers a variety of novels, magazines, journals, and state and local newspaper subscriptions. The library subscribes to the online resources such as: National Library of Medicine, Native Americans to Health Information, and ODIN. Interlibrary loan provides access to a vast array of materials not available internally. The library’s collection of Native American authors, topics, and culture, are of special note. The National Library of Medicine/National Institutes of Health assists in obtaining health related acquisitions. Children’s books and videos are also available for the younger ages. Information on the library inventory is available to the community via internet. Library programming includes a yearly summer reading camp for children, ages 5-12.The library offers extended evening and weekend hours, public access computer lab, fax and copying services, and special events such as family reading nights, weekend movie matinees, traditional practices learning opportunities, and adult learning seminars. Monday to Friday - 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and Saturday 11:00 to 3:00

Library Holdings
Current library holding include 16,553 books and 46 periodicals, 15 newspapers, 223 DVDs and CDs. During 2011 library inventory increased by 1,866 items.
