This project may be for you!

The "Next Steps" project was created to make it possible for American Indian people to go to school for careers in healthcare. People who are interested in working in healthcare can receive a wide range of educational support services, including full tuition, mentoring services, childcare assistance, etc. The project has been funded by the Administration for Children & Families - Office of Family Assistance

Criteria for Eligibility for YEAR ONE "Next Steps" Training:

QSP/CNA (Quality Service Provider/ Certified Nursing Assistant)

  • Interest in learning to provide care for elders and people with disabilities
  • Interest in becoming a QSP or CNA in nursing homes or in community settings
  • Potential interest in having a career as a health professional in the future
  • Willingness to work closely with a mentor to finish and maintain training goals
  • Must complete a drug screen and background check
  • Financial need (TANF recipient or low income)
  • Enrolled in a Federally Recognized Tribe
  • Availability for 3 full weeks of training
    • Training available in four location during YEAR ONE
    • Dates will be announced in each community
    • Sessions will be coordinated for Spirit Lake Nation, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, MHA Nation, and the Bismarck-United Tribes Technical College area
    • Funding for support services will be provided on "as needed" basis, for example, childcare
    • All tuition and training supplies will be provided
  • Attendance and successful completion of all required classes during the training
