What is the General Equivalency Diploma?
The passing of five General Education Development Test will result in the receiving of a General Equivalency Diploma or General Education Diploma sometimes referred to as a GED. The GED provides certification that the recipient has achieve high school level academic skills. The GED is recognized as a key to employment opportunities, advancement, and further education.
What are on the tests?
The GED tests are a set of five tests in the core high school curriculum areas that include:
- Language Arts: Writing
- Language Arts: Reading
- Mathematics:
- Part 1 (calculators permitted)
- Part 2 (calculators not permitted)
- Social Studies
- Science
The tests contain multiple choice questions and an essay component. Individuals must pass the essay portion of the GED Test in order to receive a passing score for the test.
Why take the GED test?
- Higher Wages:On average people who earn their GED can expect $7,000 more per year in wages. (U.S. 2000 Census Data)
- Better Opportunities:Earning a GED can open new doors to advancement either in your current job or in a brand new field.
- Sense of Accomplishment:Most GED earners convey a sense of accomplishment when they obtain their GED.

Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)
Cankdeska Cikana Community College Adult Learning Center uses the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Test to measure the skill level of the student for entrance into the GED Preparation Program. The test provides the needed information to place the students at the appropriate level for specific basic skills instruction or indicates the readiness of the student to advance directly to the GED practice test.
Graduation Ceremony
The GED Graduation Ceremony is held in December of each year to recognize the students for their achievement. Students are encouraged to participate in this ceremony and to invite their friends and relatives to join them in this important event.
All Cankdeska Cikana Community College GED graduates receive a tuition waiver valued at 6 credit hours per semester for two consecutive semesters at Cankdeska Cikana Community College.
